A record-setting 70 NFL coaches and scouts attended Stanford’s Pro Timing Day on Thursday, March 19. All 32 NFL teams were represented as 14 Cardinal athletes performed on and off the field in the hopes of showcasing NFL-worthy skills: Henry Anderson, Alex Carter, Ty Montgomery, Kyle Olugbode, David Parry, Andrus Peat, Eddie Plantaric, Ben Rhyne, Jordan Richards, Ricky Seale, A.J. Tarpley, James Vaughters, Lee Ward and Jordan Williamson.
Thirty-four former Stanford players appeared on NFL rosters during the 2014 season, including Cameron Fleming and Tyler Gaffney of the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
Gaffney was there at the Stanford Pro Day to support his former teammates and assisted in the on-field drills, but his main purpose in returning to The Farm, he told us, was to take his very last final exam that evening (in coding) and graduate Stanford.
As the Super Bowl champion left the field to get in his final Stanford study session, he had this advice for the participating athletes: “Keep it going. This isn’t the end. This is the start of a long road ahead. The way you’re working for the Pro Day has to continue on.” And on his former teammates’ performance on the field? “They’re ready,” he said.
This year’s NFL Draft is scheduled for April 30-May 2 in Chicago.
